My favorite TV show is So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD for short). I love, love, love it. I LOVE it! Currently, season 7 of SYTYCD airs on FOX on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Do yourself a treat, and tune in. You won't regret it.
Last week, two dancers were unable to dance because of injury. It was really sad for one of those dancers who required surgery, and had to leave the show. It was a tearful episode.
This morning I called my mother....
me: Did you watch SYTYCD last night?
mom: Yes.
me: Okay, don't tell me anything, I only got to watch 2 of the dances this morning. (I generally TIVO the show and watch it later)
mom: Well, there was another fatality.
me: Fatality??? Do you mean casualty?
mom: Well, there was another fatality.
me: MOTHER! Fatality mean someone DIED! You know, like when you hear there was a 'fatal' car crash?
mom: [starting to laugh harder and harder] Don't tell anyone that I said that.
me: Oh no mother, this is good stuff. Damn good stuff.

He's my Tiny Dancer
My brother, Tiger, is a football kind of guy. The weekends of fall and winter are spent in front of the TV watching college and pro football. We grew up watching pro football on Sundays, and I love it too. Tiger played football his whole life, even a bit in college. So, when he had his first child, Cooper, he couldn't wait until Cooper could watch, and eventually play football. I remember Tiger telling me his dream came true the first time Cooper actually sat with Tiger and watched a game on TV. Cooper is now six and is playing flag football for his second year. He may be small, but he is mighty!
Although I am a football kind of gal, I also was a dancer my entire life (although my body sure doesn't look like it these days). I have written quite a bit about how So You Think You Can Dance is my favorite TV show.
This fall is the first time that So You Think You Can Dance is on in the fall rather than only the summer. They started the season by showing the best of the past five seasons. Tiger likes the show too, and he and Cooper were watching that show. Cooper then told his dad, "I want to quit football and take dance lessons."
{I will pause here for dramatic effect............Cooper wanted to quit football to...... DANCE!}
Tiger told him that he could do both, and Cooper was fine with that.
Fast forward to me going to Cooper's house and giving him a dance lesson as well as babysitting for the evening. I explained to Cooper that we had to do 15 minutes of ballet because ballet is the foundation of all other forms of dance, and he was cool with that. Cooper wanted to take class in his backyard, so there we were doing our plies and releves and learning all the positions (which he still remembers, I might add). Then, we put on the cool music and start learning a 'routine'. I told him to practice it so we could add on later.
Later in the evening, I was putting Cooper and Carter to bed, and Carter was screaming "I don't want to take a nap!!!!!!!!!!" And I am all, well that is a good thing because you are NOT taking a nap 'lil man, you are going to BED. Then I moseyed across the hall and Cooper says, "you know Aunt Natalie, your dance steps were kinda weak."
Oh yes he did.
I think that my favorite show has poisoned that child. He wants to be able to do hip-hop with the best of them after one lesson, and he still has to learn first position and rhythm steps. You have to learn how to crawl before you can run. Besides, I don't know how to do hip-hop anyway. Do you think I can talk him into a tap class?

Obsession
I am in love with the show So You Think You Can Dance. Right now, they are showing season 5. In season 3, there was such a beautiful, touching piece. It is choreographed by Emmy award winning Mia Michaels. Mia lost her father to cancer, and this piece is about her and her father, and the two of them getting to meet in heaven for a brief time. Please take a look.

Ahhhhhh.... Al Fresco (who the hell is Al?)

Susan picked Cafe Bolero at 2252 N. Western for June's dinner, and we were able to dine outdoors for the first time in what seems like years! Really, is there anything better in Chicago than when the weather cooperates and allows you to eat outside for the first time that year?
Speaking of Susan, she leaves Saturday for her Mediterrean cruise. Bon Voyage Susan. Have a very juicy trip. I'll be thinking of you...lots.
We welcomed back Diane to dinner after a very long hiatus. Good to see you!
The Sangria and MOE JEE TOES were flowing. Weeeeeee.
Nancy made it to another dinner! As did Jodi. For a long time, our dinners were so small, now all of a sudden, they have sprouted. We have a new found energy.
Speaking of energy, yesterday was so weird for me. I have been on a low 'vibration' lately, but as soon as I got out of my car and saw all the girls, it was like I got a shot of adrenaline. It was wild! I felt intoxicated (in a good way) without a sip of a MOE JEE TOE (yet).
I thought Aimee looked like one hot mama last night. Motherhood has done her good.
Susan and Liz celebrated birthdays within days of each other this month. Liz celebrated the big one. 3-0! (not really, but that is what she looks like).
My meal was de-LISH. I loved it. I think I was finished before anyone, but that ain't nothin' new, now is it? Heather ate her shrimp and wanted more. I believe she had the last piece of bread and butter. The butter was so tasty that I was ready to fight her for it.
Jodee, Nancy, and I had to sit together to discuss our reality shows. And ladies, do yourselves a favor and watch So You Think You Can Dance. (I will shamelessly plug that show until you guys want to beat me with it). It never fails to 'move' me.
This is from last season.
