I know what I wanna be when I grow up

Last Saturday, Ignacio and I picked up our friend Jodee for a night out on the town.  We thought we would do something different and we were all looking forward to it..............

Roller Derby from Natalie Mikolajczak on Vimeo.

Oh yeah, Roller Derby baby.  It was so much fun.  The entire time I was sitting there, I was thinking, "I could do this.  I want to be a roller derby chick."  I was picturing myself on the team being the bad-ass I think I am.  I also remembered one of the last times I went roller skating at a rink and I fell on my tail bone, and sat on a heating pad on our gold velour couch for a week.  Not only was it a gold velour couch, but the couch was sitting on green shag carpeting.  And not only was it green shag carpeting, but there was a rake in the closet that we were supposed to use on the carpeting.

Where was I?  Ah, yes.  I want to be a roller derby bad ass when I grow up.  I want to be all tough and stuff and throw blocks and knock girls down.  Can you picture it?  Me, a tough chick?  Yeah right!  I come from a long line of wimps, and I guess the roller derby will have to remain a dream................for now.

  1. Roller derby was #1 on my list to check out when we moved to Raleigh then I got pregnant the first day. DOH.

Then I realized I am neither fast nor a brute so I can watch roller derby but probably won't do it.

What would be your name?! That would be fun to come up with a name!

  2. Hey!!! We were there too!!! We've gone to almost every bout this year -- we think they're awesome!!! We just found out about it this year... Laura's favorites are Kola Loka and Jackie Daniels on the Fury and my favorite is Deb Autry on Hell's Bells...

You should TOTALLY be a Roller Derby Chick!!! You would be AWESOME... What would your Roller Derby name be?!?! You gotta figure that out... If you keep with your blog title, maybe you could become "Summer Slayer"...

    Love, Steve

  3. And I remember that 14 point jam by Shocka Conduit!!! Hell's Belles were on fire in the beginning, and then it fell apart at the very end... We must have been sitting off to your right. I'm still working on your Roller Derby name... xoxox Steve

  4. I saw some roller derby chicks yesterday at the "Meet the Trucks" in Lakewood OH and they looked really cool!
